| INFORME DEL DR FRANCISCO V. ALVAREZ, PRESIDENTE DEL COMITE CIENTIFICO DEL LIV CONGRESO NACIONAL DE AEBM, XXII CONGRESO NACIONAL DE AEFA Y XXVI CONGRESO NACIONAL DE SEQC |
31 Octubre 2007
The first national congress of clinical laboratory review: a great meeting
Seville, Spain, has held the first national Congress of Clinical Laboratory, merge of the LIV national congress of AEBM, XXII national congress of AEFA and XXVI National Congress of SEQC. This first Congress was a great success in terms of 1500 delegates, mainly from Spain but also from Portugal, and with a beautiful eshibition area, around 3.000.
The scientific committee of the congress would like to thank the local committee of the Congress for the great attention paid on all the social events: the visit to Reales Alcazares, the concert at the cathedral, the opening cocktail outside the palace of the congresses, the enviroment of the Peralta cortijo, chosen place for the final dinner of the congress, etc. Moreover the delegates enjoyed Sevilla's weather, 20 to 25 with sun shining everyday. I am pretty convinced that the local committee has played an important role in this issue because the neighbouring cities, close to Seville, were getting, at the same time, cats and dogs of rain. "Sevilla has a special flavor" is a famous popular saying about this city and for sure it is a matter of fact that it was one of the key-points of this success.
It was exciting to create a new scientific committee, merging two congress and three societies, with different cultures in their congress. Nevertheless, it was easy to work with all the members of the committee and to create such exciting scientific program.
The congress started with a half day precongress courses for a limited number of attendants discussing about accreditation and certification of the clinical laboratories, molecular biology in the clinical laboratories, Flow citometry, and statistics application in the clinical laboratory. The first two simposia about cardiovascular risk: from photometry to proteomic, and obesity: endocrine and metabolic alterations, had a large audience. After this simposia, the official opening of the congress with a tribute of the former president of SEQC, Jose Luis Castano, who died last December 19th, took place. An emotional video, with a classical music background, about his personal life was shown. Finally, the official opening plenary session of the congress was about: Fernando the third, king of Castile and Leon. It finished just before the opening cocktail just in front of the palace of congresses with a superb temperature and a flamenco group of singers and dancers. The following days of the congress opened with a plenary session: first one about hereditary cancer and second about emerging infectious diseases. Another 10 simposia and 17 workshops have completed the scientific program. In summary, the congress program proposed a wide panel of topics, such as: state of the art of diabetes mellitus at the laboratory, chromatography, analytical quality in the laboratory, molecular diagnosis of hepatitis B and C, full automation in the laboratories, last progress about NT-proBNP: international consensus, etc, etc. Indeed, the delegates had the opportunity to choose among many events developed at the same time, showing all the rooms full of people. The paralell success of the congress was the 946 posters accepted and the 906 displayed, closed to the eshibition area, along the three and a half days of the congress. Among all of these posters, the scientific committee has chosen 20 of them to be defended in a two oral sessions and 10 of them were awarded and announced to the authors during the dinner of the congress.
It was exciting to hear from delegates that the first national congress of Clinical Laboratory, a merge of two yearly national congress, should be done years before, because of the high number of attendants and the great atmosphere of the meeting.
We are looking forward to celebrating the second national congress of Clinical Laboratory in A Coruna, next June, knowing that it will be a difficult challenge, keeping in mind that it will start only seven months from now. Nevertheless, we invite you to attend the next congress in A Coruna, beautiful city located in the northwest of Spain, in a Region called Galicia.
Finally, the scientific committee thanks all the speakers for the high rank obtained from the evaluation files of each session, all the authors of the posters, all the members of congress committee for the huge effort done in a short period of time, all the pharmaceutical companies for the beautiful exhibition area, MZ Congresos for taking care of all details and for the oustanding organization, and of course all the attendants because it could have not been possible to get such success without their presence.
We hope to meet you in A Coruna next year.
Francisco V. Alvarez, on behalf of the scientific committee
President of the scientific committee of the congress
